4g is simply better wifi and clearer calls

Andrew

4G is next generation. It’s stands for Fourth Generation, 3G stands for Third Generation, and 2G stands for Second Generation.

4G is about 10x times faster then 3G, and in some cases it is faster then most home WiFi networks. There are several times of 4G networks, but the two used in the United States currently is LTE, and WiMax. T-Mobile says their HSPA+ is 4G, but it isn’t.

It’s mainly data, I know that LTE doesn’t have anything to do with calls, but I’m not sure about WiMax.

LTE is currently being used by Verizon Wireless
WiMax is currently being used by Sprint.
AT&T is planning on incorporating LTE into their phone soon.

When you are talking about 4G and 3G network, the cell phone companies are referring to the data internet that you get from your cell phones. Faster internet speeds on your cell phone can give you streaming movies, downloading songs faster, and using the internet web on your phone is much better. 3G is about 50 kbs to 1.5 Mbps (comparable to DSL). With 4G data internet the speeds is about 7 to 12 Mbps .

It is just talking about speed of data transfer.

But NO CARRIER has actual 4G. The ITU decides what 4G is, and nobody is expected to have those types of speed for another couple years. LTE, WIMAX, nor HSPA+ are 4G. They are more like 3.5G, just like EDGE is 2.9G.

It is a marketing ploy by the phone companies. You have this awesome phone that has a 3G tacked on, but hey what about this other phone it says 4G, that has to be better right? What if it wasn’t 4G, it was HSPA+? WTF is the T-Mobile G2 and its HSPA+ access? I’m going with the 4G. That’s all it is.

Oh and here is the article about why no one has 4G,
