2006 Tyrrhenian International Workshop on Digital Communications (TIWDC'06)

Satellite Navigation and Communications Systems

Globalisation of network and services is stimulating a new awareness about the role of satellites and related applications. In fact, even in case “becoming global” is “just” seen as a convergence of technologies, it implies the effective exploitation of all components (terrestrial, air and space-based) and media (wired, wireless) in a fully integrated and, in perspective, seamless way to the end-users.

A very important integration strategy concerns Navigation and Communications architectures and services. The vision involves an “active” integration, proposing services, applications, integrated business opportunity able to merge two worlds – communications and navigation - that have been purposely apart for years.

In the above frame, the 2006 TIWDC creates to the navigation and communications community an opportunity of exchanging results and perspectives towards the implementation of the global integrated vision.

The Workshop envisages technical sessions organized by leading researchers and accommodates both invited and regular papers selected on an open-call basis. The technical program also includes a poster session, with presentations referring to promising - but still in progress - research work. All submissions will be peer-reviewed by the International Technical Program Committee.

Contributions are solicited on all advanced research issues concerning the theme of the Workshop, and particularly in the following topics:

  • Advanced satellite communications systems and services
  • Advanced GNSS and related services
  • Advanced technology for satellite communications and navigation
  • Integration between terrestrial, satellites and HAPs
  • Integration between communications and navigation
  • Dual use
  • Perspectives in satellite communications systems
  • Perspectives in satellite navigation systems
